DJ Raman

Biography

At the young age of 2, Raman’s parents bought him a keyboard which he played tunes on. He used to watch MTV and dance to the music videos (like Michael Jackson) and his favourite was Smooth Criminal. When he was 13 he was a garage MC but felt like he didn’t have enough bars & lyrics. So a year later at the age of 14, he started producing and making his own beats to accompany his MC skills. He performed at a festival in Lostock Park as an MC. After praise from his friends on his production skills, Raman came to Gorse Hill Studios when he was 15 where he started to make his own songs and really got his teeth into making beats. A couple years on Raman started DJing and it wasn't long before he was tearing up the dance-floors around Manchester with his heavyweight mixing skills and quality dubsteppin' style. He then went on to play at Contact Theatre in Manchester, Charlie’s Bar, The Music Box, and Saki bar in Rusholme performing alongside professional DJs such as Adam F, Backdraft, Veba, Ray Keith and more. As a producer Raman's influences are widely varied and he likes to listen to Nas, Excision and Wu Tang Clan. His signature style is a fusion of rumbling dub basslines, tightly woven beats and dark synth stabs. He is definitely one to look out for on the dubstep scene! Raman is currently at Stafford University studying Music Tech, pursuing his passion for music. This year in June, Raman will be Djing at a launch event for Gorse Hill Studios and continuing to make his own beats, which he does on Logic Pro. You can catch Raman's heavyweight DJ sets every 2nd Thursday on Unity Radio www.unityradio.co.uk on the Beat Bazaar Show.
