The Gorse Hill Studios Arts award Offer Summary
Gorse hill Studios is dedicated to offering learning opportunities in arts and music to young people. With professional artists and musicians, teamed with high quality arts and music equipment our members have the opportunity to follow their creative aspirations and personal arts challenges.
Young people have the chance to use the facilities to realise a performance, film, theatre, dance, radio, exhibition or other creative products, enabling their work to reach a professional standard. GHS is linked with local and national creative industries, arts venues and organisations giving our members immediate access to their personal arts development plans. GHS is part of Trafford Children and young peoples service, working with young people aged 11 – 25 years old. (targeting 14 – 19yrs, young people not in education employment or training) GHS is located in South Manchester on the border of Salford, Trafford and Manchester. Offering a membership scheme and all creative sessions, equipment and studio spaces at a minimal fee.
The Arts Award is a national qualification which recognises how young people aged 11-25 develop as artists and arts leaders.
The Arts Award is a personal learning programme which develops and assesses both arts-related skills (arts knowledge and understanding) and transferable skills (creativity, communication, planning and review, teamwork and leadership).
The award is a QCA qualification and sits on the National Qualifications Framework at levels 1, 2 and 3. It is on the learning aims database.
The award is assessed through a portfolio of evidence created by the young person, evidence can be presented in ANY format.
Organisations all over the country have designed special offers for those involved with Arts Award – we’ve badged them Arts Award Welcome Centres. Their doors are open so get involved and see how they can support your creative journey.
The Arts Award guided learning hours are as follows:
- Bronze Level 1 = 30 hrs plus approx 15 hrs additional independent learning
- Silver Level 2 = 45 to 50 hours plus approx 15 hrs additional independent learning
- Gold Level 3 = 65 to 75 hours plus approx 15 hrs additional independent learning
These are guides only and can include a mixture of group and 1:1 contact time with both the adviser and other arts practitioners. There is no need to strictly record these hours.
